Women’s Four Miler Training Program
Hosted by The Charlottesville Track Club
WHEN: Applications are usually available sometime in early May and the program kicks off in mid-June and runs until the end of August.
WHERE: The group meets every Saturday morning (usually around 7:45am) at Lannigan Field (UVa’s track).
WHO MAY PARTICIPATE: Any female may participate, especially those who are very out of shape or have NEVER exercised. Last year 1,000 women participated of which over 50% were complete novices. This beginner group started with 2 laps (half mile) of walk/run on the track and eventually made it to 4 miles of running by the end of the summer! The paces ended up ranging from 8 minutes/mile to 20 minute/mile pace.
HOW TO SIGNUP: Females may begin signing up in mid-May at Ragged Mountain or at the training program starting in mid-June.
COST: The cost has ranged anywhere from $10-20.
COACH: Joan Esposito has served as the volunteer coach since 2000 and she is helped by her volunteer army of “Pink Ladies”.
