Our Commitment to Community Neighbors
From the day we opened our doors way back in 1982 we have felt strongly about being a partner with our community. Whenever we get the opportunity, which for the most part occurs on a daily basis, we try to be good business neighbors by giving back. This isn’t as much an obligation as it is our responsibility and the role we feel a small business owner should perform in their community. Here is a brief list of some of the volunteer civic accomplishments we’re most proud of:
- Volunteer running coach since 1982
- Organized and Directed over 500 area races since 1982, including the Charlottesville Ten Miler (1984-1995) and the Charlottesville Women’s Four Miler (2000-present). These race, thanks to the support of the entrants and fellow volunteers, have then been able to donate close to $1,000,000 to a variety of local non-profits. Have volunteered in a non-directorial role at several hundred other events since 1980.
- Charlottesville Track Club Board members from 1981-2000.
- Co-Editor of the Charlottesville Track Club Newsletter — 1983 to present.
- Corner Merchants Association (Spokesperson from 1994-1997, 2004-present), Virginia Institute of Autism (President 1999-2000, 2003-2004), Rivanna Trails Foundation (2005-present)
- Chamber of Commerce “Small Business Person of the Year” 1996.
- Girls Rec. league Soccer coach (four seasons).
- Sunday School Teachers (1991 to present).
- Classroom Volunteer (grades kindergarten through 7th).
- Helped design and oversee the development of the two mile cross country course at Towe Park and the quarter mile track at Meriwether Lewis Elementary School.
- Member of President Casteen’s UVa Task Force on Alcohol Abuse (1998-1999).
- Help with several annual high school running events, including organization of The Ragged Mountain Cup and The Dogwood Track Classic.
None of these volunteer opportunities and partnerships would have been possible without the support of you, our valued customers. Thanks!
